Vecka 5

week 5.

Hello again! I haven't been updating my blog recently, and besides schoolwork and such, I've gotten to know the new people in my corridor and their friends, and have also been out doing various activities with friends in my free time when not studying.

For the highlights of this past week:

A friend and I went up the blue tunnelbana line between Kungsträdgården and Akalla to take photos of each of the stations. My camera lens unfortunately has a scratch on it now that I can't seem to repair myself (I tried using scratch remover, but it's surprisingly deep, and I don't know where it came from), and so if the light catches at a certain angle in the photo, you can clearly see where the scratch is. I'll have to get it repaired before I go on any more exciting excursions.

Here are the photos from the stations:

Fun fact: When they dug this station, they found old artifacts underground, which are the displays you now see in the station.

The goal of the Stockholm metro has been to treat each station as an art gallery. Even the outdoor stations have at least a statue or some art on the walls of the inside ticket centres. All of the stations along the blue line toward Akalla, with the exception of Kista, are indoor. The Kista station is directly connected to the Kista Galleria (shopping mall) and the Science Tower.

week 4.

Backtracking a bit in time, I thought I'd post a bit on Snösätra. My friend and I wanted to see the industrial quarter with the graffiti on it (allegedly, there's a long waiting list for artists who have applied to do artwork there). We went down to Rågsved and were told by the woman at the SL ticket booth that she had no idea where we were trying to go, but with her help and our smartphones we figured out that we had to actually travel back up to Högdalen and take a bus, then walk the remainder of the way.

It was freezing cold when we went, so perhaps we could have chosen better walking/photography weather, but the snow was a pure white and accentuated the bright graffiti along the walls (and trees). We only got halfway through before it got too cold and the sun had nearly set, and so we headed back to the bus stop without finishing the photography tour (by then, my camera battery had run out and my phone had also nearly died). But I think I'll save the rest for another day, maybe when it's not so cold :P

The way back- it was a gorgeous sunset, but I couldn't properly catch the colours with my phone camera.

...And this is the end :)

The last thing I have to post about, besides photography, is Open Sesame- they're a Swedish guitar-and-vocals duo who often perform acoustic covers but also compose their own songs. I've gone to one or two of their performances before around the area (they're locals), and was really impressed by what they were doing. They have an incredible amount of vibrance and energy both when they're on- and offstage. They had another performance last week and then one more that I went to this week, and soon they're releasing an album of their own.

I've started to get to know them better now that I've seen them several times, and we have friends in common, so I've talked to them quite a bit by now. (I even went up on stage during open mic time this week, lol.) They're really great people, and I'm also impressed by their original songs, so I'm hoping they'll do really well with the album release and their upcoming concerts. The album will be available on Spotify, and probably iTunes/Google Play/I'm not actually sure what they said. :P But anyway, definitely give them a listen if you ever get the chance.

This week's performance (the one that I went to) involved the full band, as well, plus Istria (a friend of theirs and another local singer). It was a lot of fun to hear!

In case you want more information on them and their concert dates, or want to follow their blog and see their photos/videos, here is the link to their website: http://opensesameofficial.com/

Tickets can also be bought for their album release concert next month- tickets are already on sale, so definitely consider going if you're in the area! Check out their website for more details on how to purchase tickets. They're hoping to eventually get an international following, so don't hesitate to contact them for more information or to hear some of their music! They didn't ask me to post anything about them, so I'm doing this out of my own free will :)

On that note, I'll conclude the blog post for now.

Vi hörs nästa gången!
